Tremendous kudos to William Shatner – alias James T Kirk from the Starship Enterprise. He came in for a lot of stick for his previous “singing” efforts with renditions of Mr Tambourine Man, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and Rocket Man boldly going where no man has gone before – go on, Google them, you know you want to.

Now, The Shat – who is an incredible 87 – has stuck two Vulcan salutes up to his critics and recorded a Christmas album called Shatner Claus with some of his little helpers, including understated songbird Iggy Pop.
