It was off to London’s swish Mayfair Hotel last night as Showbiz Trouper attended the London Critics’ Circle Awards. At the reception beforehand, the Trouper caught up with Richard E. Grant who admitted he was loving – and not totally believing – the recognition his acting was finally getting. And last night was no exception as you’ll see below. Here’s a look at the main winners with The Favourite taking home the most with four awards:

Film of the year: Roma

Foreign-language film of the year: Cold War

British/Irish film of the year (The Attenborough Award): The Favourite

Director of the year: Alfonso Cuaron – Roma

Screenwriter of the year: Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara – The Favourite

Actress of the year: Olivia Colman – The Favourite

Actor of the year: Ethan Hawke – First Reformed

Supporting actress of the year: Rachel Weisz – The Favourite

Supporting actor of the year: Richard E Grant – Can You Ever Forgive Me?

British/Irish actress of the year: Jessie Buckley – Beast

British/Irish actor of the year: Rupert Everett – The Happy Prince

The Dilys Powell Award for Excellence In Film: Pedro Almodovar

At the after-party, Showbiz Trouper had a natter with Pedro Almodovar who told him that for days he had been practising the speech he had only given moments before to ensure he got some of his English pronunciation right. Pedro was there with his other half, Fernando Iglesias Mas. Fernando is so handsome you end up suddenly realising you have been staring at him for quite some time – like you would at an amazing view – open-mouthed and quizzical that something that stunning could exist.

Fernando Iglesias Mas     – very handsome

Pedro meanwhile told the Trouper about his next film which is currently in production back in Spain and which will star longtime collaborator and muse, Antonio Banderas.
